The first two volumes of Jazz Resort were based around the music of Gentle Love, a duo made of up saxophonist Norihiko Hibino and pianist Ayaki. The colloboration was formed to share therapeutic healing music and to support those affected by the 2011 tsunami disaster. Jazz Resort’s name comes from their regular performance venue at an onsen (natural springs) hotel in Niigata, Japan, where they perform in a garden setting surrounded by guest rooms. Violinist maiko has been a regular member, joining Gentle Love on the Jazz Resort Vol. 1, 2, and 3, and vibraphonist Reiko Yamamoto joined for Vol. 2 and 3. Pianist Yuka Yanagihara is the latest addition to Jazz Resort, playing and contributing original music for Vol. 3.
