From 2022, Breathe Beneath the Sun is pianist Mikiko Nagatake’s second release, a jazz piano trio recording that came out just one year after her debut album Into the Forest (2021).
Brilliant deep dive into this album. The detailabout Orihara doing the mixing from a quarantine hotel in Taiwan is wild, I had a similar remote mixing session during lockdown and honestly the tech now makes it feel almost like being in the same room. Nagatake's ability to balance that patient beauty with explosive energy probably made for some interesting dynamics challenges in post.
Thank you for the comment and insight. I love how it all comes together on this album. I can hardly imagine the stress they must have felt with remote mixing sessions under quarantine conditions, with deadlines and such, but it all came together perfectly. That technology must be great! I'm glad to hear of your positive experience too.
